When did Davidson join the a10?

July 1, 2014On May 8, 2013, the A-10 announced that longtime Southern Conference member Davidson College would join the A-10 effective July 1, 2014. Davidson’s entry will restore a presence in the Charlotte area for the A-10.

14. La Salle University Explorers

La Salle has many returning players returning this season, but none averaged double figures last season! They also have a terrible non-conference schedule this year. The only recognizable opponent on their agenda is Villanova! This scheduling issue will make their players less prepared for Atlantic Ten play.

12. Rhode Island Rams

Rhode Island lost a significant amount of scoring this offseason when Fatts Russell transferred to Maryland. Russell was their most experienced scorer and best player last season. However, the acquisition of Ishmael El-Amin will help fill this void. El-Amin averaged 16.4 points per game at Ball State last season.

11. Duquesne University Dukes

Duquesne has a young roster that only includes two seniors who are transfers, an extreme lack of experience that worries me greatly. They lost their top three scorers, Marcus Weathers, Michael Hughes, Tavian Dunn-Martin, and! Without this scoring punch, Duquesne will struggle to put points on the board this season.

9. George Washington University Colonials

This season, George Washington has elite size with four players 6-9 or taller, making them difficult to guard on the inside including, Ricky Lindo, who averaged eleven points per game last season. The loss of Jamison Battle will hurt, but they brought in Tyler Warner to help make up for that loss.

8. Massachusetts Minutemen

The Minutemen are primed for a middle of the pack season in the A-10 this year. UMass lost their two top scorers from a year ago, which includes Tre Mitch and Carl Pierre. In contrast, they returned three players who scored at least nine points per game last season. Buttrick, Jones, and Kelly have an opportunity to play a significant role.

7. Davidson Wildcats

Davidson is coming off of a good year where they ended at 7-4 in conference play. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, Kellan Grady’s and Carter Collins’s departures mean they have to replace 27 points per game. However, some of that production will come from Lee and Brajkovic, but they will need others to step up.

6. Saint Louis Billikens

Saint Louis has a few early tests against Memphis, Boise State, Boston College, and Auburn, which will help determine how good this team is. They lost two double-digit scorers from last season. Furthermore, huge news yesterday, as Javonte Perkins tore his ACL! This injury will cost the Billikens dearly and lower their projection.

Intro

Welcome to the 2021-22 edition of Atlantic 10 men’s basketball! We are finally about a month away from the non-conference from kicking off. Throughout the internet, bloggers and media from near and far have previewed the A10, some better than others. Well, it’s our turn now. I got the gang together to write a preview about each of their programs.

Davidson

On paper, the floor for this Wildcats team seems lower than in past seasons. With no graduate school at Davidson, Kellan Grady, Carter Collins, and Bates Jones will all use their extra year of eligibility elsewhere.

Dayton

Entering his fifth season as the head coach at Dayton, Anthony Grant will have his work cut out for him from a player development perspective. With a roster that features 11 freshmen (five true freshmen) and zero seniors, the Flyers will be one of the youngest teams in the entire country this year.

Duquesne

Duquesne is headed into the 2021-22 season in an unproven way. After limping to an unimpressive 9-9 finish and being whooped out of the A10 Tournament by St. Bonaventure, the Dukes have lost four key figures to either the transfer portal or graduation.

Fordham

The first year under a new head coach is usually a write-off year in any sport. However, from the moment his hiring was announced, Kyle Neptune let the A-10 world know that his team is ready to come out swinging.

George Mason

Key player: Josh Oduro was the big fish that Kim English wanted to secure on day one in Fairfax, and he was successful in getting Josh to stay. Oduro’s development over the summer cannot be understated, and he has the tools to make a run at winning Atlantic 10 Player of the Year.

George Washington

Many folks will be surprised to know that it was Bishop who led the Atlantic 10 in scoring last season, and with the departure of Jamison Battle in the offseason, more weight is going to fall on Bishop’s shoulders. Rick Lindo Jr. will also be another name to watch, as he only played a fraction of last season due to injury.

Who is the newcomer to the A-10?

Key Newcomers: Matt Moyer (Vanderbilt), Noel Brown, James Bishop (LSU) George Washington will be one of the more improved teams in the A-10 this season. Jack and Nelson Jr. form a tremendous backcourt duo, while Battle is a rising star in the frontcourt.

Who are the newcomers to St Bonaventure?

Key Newcomers: Jalen Adaway (Miami OH), Eddie Creal (JUCO), Jalen Shaw (JUCO) St. Bonaventure has the ability to push the teams at the top of the league with all five starters back, though coming into the year they seem to be a step behind. The Bonnies have a tremendous inside-out duo of Lofton and Osunniyi.

How many points did Ryan Daly average in St. Joe’s basketball?

St. Joe’s had very little in the way of 3-point shooting last season and that’s unlikely to change in 2020-21. Ryan Daly, who averaged over 20 points per game last year, is the lone bright spot.

Does Fordham stack up in the Atlantic 10?

Fordham doesn’t stack up well in the Atlantic 10 Conference on talent alone. Injuries struck the team in a big way last year as well making their efforts all the more futile. Stingy team defense is the Rams’ best weapon to try and be competitive.

Is the A10 a conference?

The A10 has gained a reputation for being one of the most unpredictable conferences in all of college basketball. Even in past seasons where one or two teams have asserted dominance throughout the regular season, long-shots have managed to run the table in the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament and steal a March Madness bid. Nonetheless, there are a handful of teams who appear to be the cream of the crop ahead of the 2020-21 season.

Is Jamion Christian rebuilding?

2019-20 was wrought with roster turnover for George Washington as several players departed the program both during and after the season. Jamion Christian has the rebuild going, but it’s not finished yet.
