What is the Conference of Mayors?
Through the Conference of Mayors, cities are invited to share their best practices on how they tackled challenges in a variety of issue areas. These best practices are collected and showcased in various reports, surveys, forums, and on our website.
Why is the Conference of Mayors important?
Membership in the United States Conference of Mayors is an important way cities across the United States stay connected with each other and engaged with issues at the national level. Full members of the Conference are entitled to participate in our policy-shaping process and are eligible for our grant and award programs. They also receive discounts for meeting registration and other preferred benefits.
Why Join?
Adopted policies are guided by the Executive Committee and Advisory Board. During our Annual Conference in June, Standing Committees recommend policy positions they believe should be adopted by the organization. The policy resolutions adopted represent the views of the nation’s mayors and are distributed to the President of the United States and Congress. In addition to the work of the Standing Committees, mayors are organized into task forces to examine and act on issues that demand special attention. Both Standing Committees and Task Forces allow mayors to serve in leadership and be recognized as leaders in a specific issue area.
How does the Mayors Business Council work?
The Conference works with business leaders through the Mayors Business Council. This membership organization within the Conference allows mayors and leaders in the business community to work together toward providing opportunities for both the city and the business. Our Council on Metro Economies and the New American City also examines economic development through their Metro Economies reports, measuring the size of metropolitan economies and comparing their outcomes against states and nations. This data helps our members better understand growth trends and showcases the competitiveness of our local economies.
