Caricatures Of Others’ Faith Have No Place in the Believer’s Heart

One of the most frustrating things to deal with as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the caricatures of the faith from non-believers and for former believers. Things the the “get your own planet” and “what’s unique isn’t good, and what’s good isn’t unique . Specious couplets they are sometimes called.


Ever since I realized I’m gay, I’ve honestly felt like I may not belong. When the topic of LGBT members comes up, many church members on this sub seem to make a point of reminding me that if I don’t stay single and alone for life, I’m a sinner. Is there really no hope for a better life for me here?

This is a genuine question from my heart. I’m not looking to start a fight, bash the church or any individuals here. I’m honestly just kind of exhausted from reading all of the comments from members in this subreddit making sure I remember that wanting what so many straight members get to enjoy in loving marriage is not an option for me.

I recently returned from serving in Layton Utah about three months ago from an eighteen month mission, and I heard a lot of warnings about going inactive. I heard all about it before my mission, during my mission, but there was nothing after my mission. Words weren’t enough to prepare me for what I was going to go through.
